I am venturing into the AMD Ryzen platform; It has been a long time since I used an AMD system. Over time I will phase out the other Intel systems used by family members and will be posted on this thread.

To start, Here are the system components of the first build.

    AMD Ryzen 7 1700X

    AsRock X370 Professional Gaming

    Thermalright True Spirit 140 Direct

    Supermicro S5 Special Edition Case

MSI Geforce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X Video Card

    Memory

    To be determined

    Operating System
    Windows 10 Pro (unfortunately :bangh:)

Other components from previous build will go into this system like the Be Quiet! Dark Power 11 1000W PSU, 2x 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black hard drives, 1 TB Samsung SSD, Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

I am still trying to figure out which memory to go with, but it will be 16 GB total since the prices are high.

I was reluctant to pull the trigger buying new memory due to the current prices and instead have been checking the used market.
I was able to land an ADATA 32 GB DDR4 kit for the same price a 16 GB cheap memory kit goes for new :D

    The kit looks like this

Who knew RAM sticks could look this cool?

    Nice job getting that deal!

Have not updated this thread in a while
I was waiting for a month for the case but store I placed the order took their sweet time to deliver case and I ended up cancelling

I am going with Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 6
MasterCase Pro 6 Mid Tower Case | Cooler Master

    The one with red LED

Also, waiting for AMD to release their Wraith Max cooler

If I can get Vega GPU then it will be an all AMD system
might not be as fast at Nvidia, but is best to support the little guy so that they get money to research new products

If you would go with Ryzen + Vega you're the real MVP, Az! I like the idea of an all AMD system better than mixing AMD and Nvidia together. You better get a beefy PSU though!

I already have a 1000 watt Be Quiet! PSU waiting
I hope I can buy one of the single cards and worse case will be buying the bundle with Ryzen and Motherboard with the parts I already have going into a family member PC

So much for having an all AMD system. Vega performance is not that good compared to the Geforce 1080; it comes close in performance in some games but loses in the rest.

Also not surprisingly, cards were sold out within one hour of release.

I can still support AMD by buying their processors. I am considering a Threadripper system next month

    Threadripper, nice!

If the GPU doesn't perform well, I also think it's not worth getting one. You'd probably miss out on
some Nvidia-specific graphics things that are going to be built into upcoming games until AMD get
    on that bandwagon again.

Vega 64 not being as fast as a 1080 was to be expected, but it's also cheaper. That doesn't help when it's not in stock though. Drivers still need optimizing as well, I'd think. Anyway, it's not my system so I'm not gonna tell you what to do with it!

For your upcoming Threadripper build you could wait for Asus to release their dual-Vega 64 ARES card just for fun! Even though my guess is that it won't be released next month.

I ended up going with a different case for this build since the Cooler Master model takes additional days to get delivered

Similar to the one in this video but with acrylic window.

Are you sure it's long enough for the card? I still have nightmares from the 1070. :D

The card is 320 mm long and the distance between back of case and HD cage is 286 mm; It will fit by removing the top hard drive cage
Yeah, that HOF card is as long as this one but worse because of the fan button

I received the case and man did my heart skipped a couple of beats
When I was removing the case from the box, the two Styrofoam pieces protecting it came off and case fell out :nailb:
thankfully it fell inside the box so it wasn't damaged
