So it seems there is an uproar online against Take-Two about the shutdown of the OpenIV tool because it was affecting online experience
some people state that it was mostly single player mod tool.
Steam reviews have turned mostly negative recently.

I am out of the loop since I only played the single player story and no modding, you guys care to elaborate?

One of the most essential tools for modding GTA V (swapping in models, textures, animations, etc.) is OpenIV.

We all know modding is a legal gray area but when you install and use OpenIV, it specifically states that the tool
will only affect the single player portion of the game and that you simply will not be able to start GTAO (GTA Online)
with mods enabled. Online gaming simply doesn't work unless everyone's using the same exact version of a game,
    obviously.

Regardless, Take-Two decided to go after the creators of the tool, saying it bypasses online security features and
    violates their rights.

The community is in an uproar because that's simply not true. OpenIV does not affect the multiplayer portion of the
game, but because their legal team is a billion dollar monster machine, going against it is futile. Mods have kept GTA
games - and not just V - alive over decades, kept it relevant, so with the publisher going after one of the most essential
mod tools, the community started to fight back.

Take-Two has also sent cease-and-desist notifications to another big mod website. They use a script hook, that basically
hooks a trainer script into the game, so you can spawn in random cars or make yourself invulnerable. While that has also
created a ton of funny content for GTA, it's more serious than OpenIV since I believe it can actually affect the online part
    of GTA.

The main attention lies on OpenIV, because it's unjustly being accused of messing with GTA Online.

    Thank you for the explanation.
I can see now why there is such reaction from the modding community and hopefully Take-Two/Rockstar change their minds since they are shooting themselves on the foot.

at the request of Rockstar, Take-Two has backed down of the OpenIV ban
    PC Single-Player Mods

kudos to Rockstar for taking the initiative and as for Take-Two (Insert evil eye)
    The community protests paid off

Yup, the mostly negative reviews on Steam helped a lot, I suppose.

Hope they'll think twice about pulling anything like this again.
