If i were you i will go with an AMD Athlon 64, those are the fastest Processors,

if you plan to go with an intel processor, pick a northwood, dont buy a prestcott because those run hot and perform poorly

For the CPU I agree, I've a P4 3.0 GHz HT now and it's simply great - fast and reliable, what do you want more.

For the graphic card I prefer ATI and if the next gen cards will be released I'll buy an ATI, because my 9700 pro is fast, reliable, doesn't makes any kind of problems and all game and I've a lot of games are running without any significant problems. So want do you want more, forget about these loud nVidia crap ;) or do you like vacuum cleaners :lol: .

u see, i made the same experience with nvidia as u have with ati.
the gfx card i got right now is fast, reliable and i never had any
probs with it nor with my previous geforce 2 pro.
so id go for nvidia again. the only thing im not sure about is that

You will not notice your 11 fans anymore, the sound of some of the new GeForce cards is really annoying, believe me they are really loud... really. Only some of the latest models, one is called 5950 if I remember right (hopefully) are better, don't ask me for the exact name. But you only have to check some tests and you'll know.

I agree... just 'cause something is new, don't mean it's any good yet... And by the time the world is ready to cope with 64-bit tech I am pretty sure that Intel will have their own product ready for it...

I am now running a AMD 1000 Mhz, 256 MB RAM and a Geforce2GTS Pro... Vice City is running on that, but it has problems now and again... In general it was not so bad, but I personnally tend to go back to Intel myself, especially because of the Front Side Bus Speed and also because Intel now offer 1 MB Cache...

I just registered for this forum... I am following you around a bit... maybe you remember... We spoke about bb2 cars recently on gtaforums...

yeah i agree, amd sucks at fsb. intel had the 1024 (rambus)
a long time ago and amd still isnt further then 400 i think lol
also if u buy a p4 u get a fan with it that has enough power
to keep it cool enough to run perfect. i dont know if its still
so foolish, but i remember all friends buy amds and then
try out 2 or 3 fans till they found one that suited them and
the cpu.

oh and i made a lot of tests comparing my friends amd 1000/133 cpu
to my p3 700/100. we had the same amount of ram, same and i mean
exact same gfx card.
now apart from his daily crashs, mine was actually a bit faster and wasnt a toaster. seriously, if u run an amd, u can switch of the heat. my p3 runs at 26° and his was always around 60° lmao
he had to install 3 seperat fans just to get the temp down enough so the fecker wouldnt hang once a day.

anyway, Obviously you did something wrong in your test comparing your putter to the one your friends has, did you consider the mother board chipset fo the matter,

I know what i am talking about, i have tried both amd and intel,
I had a 1.2 ghz Tbird processor that held its own againts a 1.8 ghz northwood processor
and also what kind of processor was it, you just say amd 1000/133 cpu
remember that there was a crippled cpu called the duron :roll:

Those benchmarks speak the truth in terms of real game performance, i have tested that myself, you have right now a what nvidia ti 4200, i have a ti 4400 in my sister's pc, and i can see a real difference in performance in games between that chip and a the radeon 9800 pro, fact that online benchmarks expressed when they compare those cards,

I am talking from experinece in hardware, i have tried both over time, and i have chosen which one is best. currently i have an amd 2400+ athlon xp, i compared it to an intel 2.4C and they are the same in terms of performance, in some cases the amd one is a little faster. thats why i gave the intel one to my brother

@ tommy, there is obviously something wrong with your system, i have an athlon Xp 2400+ and temperature is 28 degrees C and under load is aroung 35-40 degrees C

it has a copper heatsink and artic silver 2, i havent replaced it with artic silver 5

and the cpu doesnt costs 500 bucks blaer, it costs 280 usd, and thats for an Athlon 64 3200+

you guys are bithching about the rating, you have not experience things like me, and i believe in the rating system AMD implemented, just by looking at game performance between systems tested

i had well still have an asus p3bf mobo that runs with a 7 multiplier and a 100 fsb. btw. that asus isnt sposed to do that, it only supports multiplier up to 6x and it runs on 7x since october 1999. thats what i call quality. he had a brand new via chipset mobo back then, that sucked compare to a 1 year old asus board.. nough said.

About the new graphic cards, I always read as much as I can about them.
I ordered a Radeon9800pro 128MB, its cheap here in Greece and has enough power to play all games in High-Res with AA and blablabla :D
Imo ATI is a guarantee, NVidia is a self-destructer.

About processors, Im gonna buy a Athlon64 @ 3200, not that I think that they are better than Intel, but Imo I like AMD and they are much cheaper here in Greece.

We reached a era where the processors have TOO MUCH power, and cmon, to be honest, imo, is there a difference between AMD & Intel.
I dont think so. 3GHz is enough for the next 2 years imo.

Everybody is conceeding that the 6800 ultra is the best (will have to wait until ati releases theirs) performance is double, is quiet

although i am for ATi,
this time around i have a feeling that they will not pull it off,
just look are the releases of the 9700 pro, 9800 pro and xt versions

the performance difference between those cards is very close, there is no point in buying a 9800 XT over a 9800 pro or a 9700 pro

we have to give nvidia Kudos because this time they have delivered

I've to disagree, this TFT was worth every Cent. It's one of my best pieces of hardware I've bought so far. I had some very good CRTs before, but none of them were only close to what this TFT is. Like told before, if you have seen it, you'll never buy a CRT again. The picture is more than sharp, the contrast and brilliance of the colors are awesome. Beside this the 19" are meant visible and the design of the TFT is great as well, I'll never go back to a CRT again. But with most of the TFTs you have to be cautious, because they aren't made for gaming (most of them will tell you, but the aren't). Only Sony and some very new and expensive ones from other brands are able to display the images fast enough.

i my self have seen them in action, and still think is just a waste of money on a piece of material.


the cheap one that i currently have, has serve me well even with farcry
and has lasted for close to 3 years

like said, even if i had the cash to buy such things, i will spend it somewhere else, like improving my car, which i use alot

I cant wait for the new cards either. Not because I'm wanting to get my hands on one, but because it should make the Raedon XT range well within my means. :) The ol' GeForce 2 just doesn't really cut it anymore :roll:
